Malawi Social Cash Transfer Programme Management Information System
Public Sector / Social Protection / Digital Transformation · 2023 – Present
Helping modernize the national Management Information System supporting Malawi's Social Cash Transfer Programme through scalable architecture, legacy modernization, and data-driven operations.
A critical national platform constrained by legacy architecture
The existing Management Information System had grown over many years into a complex platform supporting beneficiary registration, payments, case management, compliance, and reporting. As programme requirements evolved, introducing new functionality, maintaining data quality, and supporting operations became increasingly difficult within the constraints of the legacy system.
Designing a modern foundation for programme delivery
Contributed to the engineering and modernization of a new Java Spring Boot platform with a redesigned data model, migration tooling, structured APIs, monitoring, and operational improvements. The work extended beyond software development to include data migration strategy, database optimisation, deployment architecture, observability, and replacing legacy workflows with maintainable services.
A platform built for long-term sustainability
The modern platform provides a scalable foundation for future programme growth while improving maintainability, operational visibility, and data integrity. By reducing technical debt and enabling a modular architecture, the system is better positioned to support future enhancements and evidence-based social protection delivery.
